FAQ

Why should I use a turning stairlift instead of two straight stairlifts?
Using two stairlifts means that the rider will have to transfer from one stairlift to the other at the middle landing. Some people are unable to transfer without having someone physically move them from one chair to the next. Also, if your stairway has fan-shaped steps, two lifts cannot be used. However, if your stairway has a flat landing and you are able to transfer, we certainly recommend using two stairlifts. Please contact us for straight models and pricing.
What changes are made to my home by the installation?
Almost none. The rail attaches directly to the stair treads, not to the wall. If your stairway is carpeted, when you remove the lift there will be virtually no evidence it was there.
Why are these turning lifts more expensive than straight ones?
Custom turning stairlifts are not an assembly-line product. We have to measure each stairway very carefully from every angle, as well as each step individually. After that, we have technical drawings drafted by an Engineer. Then the manufacturer has to set up all their machine equipment to custom-build the rails to match your stairway. This is a very involved time consuming process.
How long does it take to get my lift from the time I place the order?
Depending on the manufacturer's current work load, normally 3-4 weeks.
How long does the installation itself take?
Approximately 2 days, depending on the length and configuration.
Our home has an outdoor stairway. Are these lifts weatherproof?
Unfortunately, there are no custom turning stairlifts which can withstand the weather. The Sterling 2000 is for indoor use only.
Can my lift be transferred to another stairway if I move to a new home?
Usually they cannot. For a custom turning lift to work on another stairway, the other stairway would have to be exactly the same size and shape.
How fast does the lift travel?
The Sterling 2000 travels at approximately 27 feet per minute, which is reasonably slow.
What if something gets in the way of the lift while I am using it, such as a child or a pet?
There are many safety features on these lifts. The most basic way to stop the lift is to simply take your hand off the controls. There are also safety cutoff switches on the footrest and other important locations which will stop the lift immediately if anything touches them.
